That has to be the strangest birthday weekend I’ve ever had.  I am
just now recovering.

Not from partying, you sillies, from being sick.  Never been ill for my own birthday before.
Well, it wasn’t really on my birthday, it was Sunday, but it does
explain why I felt so blah on Saturday.  I was sick at my party
(on Sunday) and I should not have eaten the cake and ice cream, but it
was a new plum cake recipe and Blue Bell’s new White Chocolate
Almond.
It tasted great.  I regretted it later anyway.

It did turn out to be a good day, though, because when my
Dad came home from something later in the evening, and I was all achy
from the fever, I got my favorite birthday present so far: a head-rub,
neck-rub, foot-rub, and even a hand-and-arm-rub.
*sigh*   It was almost worth being sick for
that.

Feeling better now, though I’m not sure I’m completely well.
Fortunately my current lifestyle allows me to sleep a great deal.
And I’m losing weight on my current diet of white rice and clear
liquids.

(My mom told me broth would be a good clear liquid, and that there was
some left in that little pan on the back of the stove, so I poured it over
my rice.  Nice warm chicken broth.  Isn’t that what you think
of when you hear the word broth?  It wasn’t.  It was “broth”
from the cooked carrots they’d sprinkled over the chicken spaghetti
dish that I wasn’t allowed to eat at supper.  I should have
thought to wonder when I had to strain orange pieces out of it.)

Later I have to share the story of my birthday breakfast.  My siblings are the most imaginative children ever.

  1. I’m so sorry you were sick!  Well, carrots are used to make soup stock but carrot juice “broth” is not the first thought that came to my mind.   Losing weight because of being sick is a side benefit that does not make being sick completely worth it.    The last couple of times that our family has been sick Dani and I both lost weight but we don’t recommend it on a regular basis.

  2. whoa…colors…I dig it, being Tennessean and all. I too am sorry you were sick on your birthday. Yuck-o.We may well be long lost twins…Luke and Leia…or the WONDERTWINS!! Form of…carrot broth…shape of…rice…and my nephew Elijah may in fact be Gleek the Space Monkey. Thanks for your comments…it is good to know others go through this too…in fact, knowing that and being able to share with people is about the only thing that makes the process worthwhile much of the time. I will reread the Psalm too.

  3. I got sick in Russia, and lost five pounds! Getting sick will do that to you, but for me the effect was not positive seeing how heavy I am and all. I think five pounds is the most weight that I can safely lose without choping off a limb or something.
    Your sibling’s are imaginative.
