hunkerin’ down

the creeks are already up around here.  the gas lines are ridiculous.

the grocery lines are worse–it went all the way to the back of the store and started wrapping around.  we decided our ice cream could wait.

at least we did our gas and grocery runs last night.

we’re boarding up and, as far as we know, waiting it out.

So, if I’m attracted to athletes…

…does that mean I need to be more athletic?

I have a friend who just met an olympic swimmer (a very attractive one) because she ran a 10K in Austin.  Dang.  Is that what it takes?  Makes sense in a way.  You do meet people with similar interests because you’re doing similar things.  Does this mean I’m going to have to foster my athletic side?  It exists, but it’s a wimp right now.

Oh, brother.

The sad thing is, lately I’ve noticed that all the athletes are getting younger.  So many of the guys my age are “former-athletes.”  Except maybe the volleyball players.  I guess a few football players make it into their thirties.  Lord, I hope You know what You’re doing, ’cause I can tend to be a bit of a mess.

That storm yesterday was amazing!

I was babysitting with Steph, and standing out front watching it come in.  I first noticed the green–“tornado weather”…

…then the clouds being pushed and swirled opposite directions.  And then I saw a truly spinning cloud that, if it decided to drop and expand, would have been a true funnel cloud.  I’ve never seen one spin that tight that wasn’t actually part of a tornado.  It seemed to take forever to move away.  So far everything had moved in and west so quickly…this one just kept hanging right over us.  In my head I was figuring how many people would fit in our tiny powder bath (the only downstairs room in the house without windows).  Wondering what I would do if I actually saw a finger come down out of the sky.  And praying…

The whirpool in the sky finally moved farther west and a bit north while other bits of cloud rushed south and southwest.  And we watched as the rest of the storm tried to make up it’s mind about unleashing it’s fury on us or waiting till it hit the coast.

About five minutes later, whatever tv channel that was playing Jurassic Park interrupted with some weather warnings, which soon turned into tornado watches.  I could have told them that.  I told my little brother “I could have been the weatherman.”

In the end we only got a bit of wind and some rain.  And Jonathan got some great pictures, it looks like.  And then we had a rainbow and a sunset…just as if the scary storm had never happened.

inspiration gone amuck

sometimes, in an effort to turn a truth into a cute little memorable saying, we take things too far.

i give thee, corny:

When two hearts race, both win.

What the monkey?  I’m sure they meant well, but I think chocolate companies should stick to creativity in the kitchen.  even i can’t find the romance in this one.

getting ready for a great weekend.
i’ve been to conferences before, but
I’ve never been to Na before, so I’m not entirely sure what to expect.
it’ll be fun flying up with my sister and some friends,
staying with the girls in a cool hotel,
riding the trolley to the grocery store.
i really need a spark in my relationship with God,
and learning to love His Word seems like a good one.

“Without faith, it is impossible to please God.”
And how to do we get faith?  By hearing.  The Word.
I need more of the Word.

I’m tired.  And busy.  So not much is making sense, but I’m so ready for this weekend.

“Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart.”
