is this goodbye?

It was many years to live…

was it a good life?

Was your heart ever touched by God?

Did you love her once upon a time?  Did you still?

Did you stand in awe of sunsets the way I do?

Did I inherit my patriotic heart from you?

Or my love of the rugged outdoors, shooting guns, cold weather, the moon, the ocean?

Is there any part of you in me?

Who were you?

I wish someone could tell me what you were like as a boy.

I envy the few who had the chance to know you before the war.

Before life closed you up.

I wish I had known your heart.

All my life it was hidden away.

Mostly…

…mostly I hope that I will see you again.

  1. I wonder about my ancestors too. Start a family tree on Geni dot com, we did, and ours is now amazing…back to 1652. That relative has been there, long gone, but now that I know the name, I want to know more. I think I’ll write a letter to my great great great great grandchildren. The problem is that now the way things are going in the world, prophecy being fulfilled at such a rapid pace, I wonder if there will be time for many more generations. Faithful, we must stay the course. So many of my ancestors Loved the Lord, what a tremendous testimony. I think they spent their lives taking care of their families, cooking, and cleaning up. The women’s accomplishments are not discussed much. I guess if I write it down, then in order to be shared with 4 generations from now, it has to also survive until they are born, old enough to read and I think it probably won’t be saved that long. A powerful thing happened when a lady I met told me my grandmother led her to the Lord and taught her a lot as her Sunday School teacher. She introduced me to her great grandson, she was playing with him in the McDonald’s play area. I wish I’d had a video camera so all my cousins could hear what she said too. Your sisters singing was awesome.
