I posted this a long time ago and just found it again.  It still cracks me up.

Ten-year-old Peter wanted to make a special birthday card for his ninety-seven-year-old great grandpa, a former golfer.  With no coaching from anyone, he wrote,

“Grandpa Mac, your life has been a ninety-seven-yard line drive

and you have about a three-foot putt left.”

  1. So, how did Grandpa Mac take it?
There ARE folks who live past 100!!
My own mom may make it past 100.
If she does, she most likely won’t be chuckling over any greeting cards. But in the past she would have enjoyed that sentiment on a card. When just us two girls visited her house, we found the “skateboard” that Michael had made for her as a Christmas gift one year a long time ago. It was wheel-less (so she wouldn’t fall) and had a “strap” (to help her stay on). The “strap” was made of string. Kite string, to be exact, and it was nailed onto the sides of the 2×4  piece of wood he chose with huge nails…good and tight!!
She opened it on Christmas morning, listened carefully to the explanation, then just howled with laughter until tears were running down her face. Michael had been so anxious to see “how she likes it”, but had not anticipated this response. I’m not quite sure he could take it in. But Grandma REALLY enjoyed it. She didn’t try to do any tricks on it either. She was so pleased with that gift, showed it to everyone, marveled at his ingenuity and construction skills, and then just giggled herself silly. When Sera & I found it, she could no longer tell the tale, but enjoyed it when I retold it for her.
