*It’s my sister’s birthday today.  Mom’s was yesterday.

*It’s scary when your “little” sister turns twenty-seven.  It should be illegal.

*When we got her flowers today (I was called down to arrange them), I
complained that I never get flowers on my birthday–which I later
remembered is not true.  My 25-year-old sister said “You’ve had
too many birthdays to remember them all properly.”  I just had to laugh.

*I wrote a piano piece on the spot for a recording a few years ago, and
wasn’t sure I could ever play it again.  I tried tonight, and I
can’t.  Maybe someday I will discover a computer program that
reads CD’s and prints out the music.  I would love be able to play
my own work.  :-Þ

*Rainy days mean cold fronts coming.  I can’t wait.

*The zoo was amazing.  Some friends who work there got us in free,
and then since it was his day off he showed us around everywhere; and
on her lunch break she joined us for a picnic and then took us back to
the nature area where she works.  She got in the bat cage/cave to
turn the light on for a spider cage and then fed the bats (they were
pretty small) some fruit so we could see them eat.  Then she
brought out a python for us to pet and then a short-tailed
opossum.  They both shared a great deal and answered
questions.  He had all sorts of random tidbits about animals to
share with us.  As in, those monkeys are kind of mean…when they
kept a smaller animal in there for a while–I missed exactly what–they
ended up throwing it one day and breaking it’s leg.  And the mama
orangutan keeps her baby away from the male because he’s grumpy.
One time she caught her baby’s leg just in time and yanked him
backwards.  We got to see all kinds feedings and trainings, all
because our guide knew the workers and what was planned (or
unplanned).  Then at the end he took us to the “authorized
personnel only” area and showed us the conissary (food
prep) where he works.  And we all got to step into a cooler that
they keep at about -5 degrees for storing fish, etc.  I think they
spoiled me rotten.  I may never want to go without a
guide again.  It’s too much fun having friends in high places.

*I keep feeling like I’ve forgotten something I was supposed to get done.  Laundry?
Was I supposed to call someone about something?  Who knows.

*I’m living with a sense of waiting for something big coming up.  But my calender is blank for the rest of the month.

::Edit::
My seventeen-year-old brother just called me “chick.”  What the monkey?
Went something like this–I walked into the room and saw him home from
drama and said, “Hey, bud.”  And he said, “Hey, chick.”
Dude.  And then he decided he should call me “weed” so we would be
speaking the same language.  And now he’s discussing football with
me while I type.  I’m very talented at multitasking.  And if
the name Tony Romo slips in here…oops.

  1. Every kid should have a good zooing.
That sounds just like your twenty-five-year-old sister.
There’s a wedding in a week?  I don’t get to bring a date (at least, my invitation didn’t say “and guest”).  I think the bride was saying something about me needing to meet one of the bridesmaids.  Blah!

  2. Oh buuuuuuurn!
I kinda want to go whitewater canoeing.  You can write that on your calendar – we’ll see if we can get a mess of canoes from the derricks, drop them in clear creek at my house, paddle way down past the wallisers’s home to egret bay.  Nice and fast!  But we’d have to hit it this weekend.  Then again, that doesn’t much sound like your kind of thing.

  3. your family sounds just wonderful! *smile*i added a few more piccys to my fall post. i just realized how double minded i sound… my last post was “i don’t want to be here- take me back to romania”, and now i’m “aw, i love tennessee…”heh.i’m still planning to post about my trip… i just need a day off to do it!

  4. my sister got the r4ecipe while living in texas, so i think that has to count for something (grin). i like it because a. it takes “real good” and b. it’s ridiculously easy to make. i’m not too clever ’round the kitchen, you might say.

Have you looked at “Finale” (music notation software)?  I know this program does some amazing stuff!  I’ve used it, but don’t have the latest version, which might include the feature you are looking for.  You might give them a call and ask!

  6. Don’t feel bad about the piano thing. That kind of on the spot writing or improv is a gift unto itself. To be honest, when I play guitar, even in public, the chord bedding stays the same, but the single notes never repeat and I can’t duplicate them…I worried about that too until I read the late Stevie Ray Vaughn’s bandmates say that in all the years they played with him, he never played any song the same way twice. So take that, structure!! You are just that sort of freewheelin’ chick.Blank calendar, eh? Perhaps a vacation to the great state of Tennessee is in the works…hmmmm….

  7. wow! 27! eek. Sorry, not trying to scare you… or Stacy, but I think that sounds bigger because Stacy seems so young – in looks and at heart, though definitely not in mind. 😉

  8. You’re welcome!  There is actually what is called a “HyperScribe” tool that allows for variance, and maintains the integrity of what you have played, while still printing fairly close to what you have played.  You do have to do some “tweeking” with some corrections that are played outside your assigned variance standards, but I used it pretty successfully, and our Choir Director and Pianist used that feature all the time to print out their arrangements for future use.  Good luck!

  9. Um, I really hate to say this but……there is the possibility that I will be in west Texas at that time.  Memaw will find out next Wednesday if she will be having the surgery on the 9th.  If it’s a go then Mom and I will have to give blood for her on Friday or Saturday.  I will be there if Memaw does not have surgery but if she does I will be gone and feeling very sorry for myself.  I am sure that my family would not mind you coming to spend the night.  Mom is thinking that we could make our trip to where she can be here on Saturday.  Anyway, I will have no definate answers until Wednesday.

  10. You mention it, but you always chicken out when you have the opportunity.  I personally know you’ve had the chance to drift a race car, play paintball, and go whitewater canoeing, and you’ve passed on every single one.  You’re all talk, dude!

  11. seriously, is he not the cutest baby in the world? I luff him.
well, it might have something to do with the town of avonlea blogring…on my honeymoon, my two month excursion (that will probably just be a weekend at the jersey shore, but I can dream 🙂 I would love to go to PEI, for a few days…sigh. so perfect. I love those movies, always will. and what’s weird is you can watch them over and over and over again and never tire of them. I think that might be a little bit like love. 🙂
I will write later, i know I owe you a comment or two of epic proportions.
