why do i feel so busy.
the race coming up?
i’m not even the one training!
ah, the way we sisters live.
it’s called bearing one another’s burdens.
*smiles*
we head to the Colorado River in central Texas
tomorrow.
lovely weather
or lovelier.
cool front yesterday morning,
not a big deal,
but the temp has dropped
a few degrees
and it’s drier.
even smells a bit like fall.
soon, soon.
i love fall.
new adventures,
old routines becoming exciting.
memories of all the things i’ve ever
done in the fall.
french class,
evening ballet lessons,
football,
sweaters and sweatshirts
(if it ever actually get’s cold enough before January),
and my lavender suede jacket,
and the promise of hot chocolate
becoming a necessity.
amazing how weather can affect us so much!
why does fall smell different from the rest of the year?
what is fall to you?
it is my happy time. it is my excitement.it means pumpkins, red, orange, blue, windlong sleeved shirts and hoodiesthe cranberries and mute math poetry inspiration dancingstanding on my driveway at night watching the starsscarvesgoldenrodshearing the song i dream about during the rest of the yearenchantments. everything is magical.this season is my favorite. i wish my birthday was in october.
oh i forgot.it means treesand flying.i cannot forget that it means flying.and rain. rain in the fall is too wonderful.
Oh that’s going to be so fun. I noticed it was cool yesterday. Sigh. I won’t be there til saturday, but save me a good spot.
Oh yeah, fall is the smell of fresh-baked bread on a cold breeze.
yes, I really do like football…and I liked the Oilers better before they moved and changed their name…they came in with the owner making a statement like “move over Volunteers, there’s a new team in town” to which I thought, uhnhuh, don’t think so…because “when the leaves turn to orange, it’s FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE”…so said John Ward, the Voice of the Vols…I understand the TV quandry…growing up, the Falcons were treated as our regional game every week and they had possibly one winning season all that time. Then the Titans came and you would get them on the AFC game and even though they actually won some, man were they boring to watch! I am an Oakland Raiders man, when I was growing up, they were outlaws and it appealed to me…also the Silver and Black colors looked intimidating, which I think you should on the football field *** smile (or pseudo-evil smirk)anyway, I am probably in for another long season, as I just don’t think Aaron Brooks is the answer at QB…I also root for the Colts as many people here do because of Peyton Manning, but usually in the pros I like individual players better than teams…Brett Favre is my favorite and I’ll be sad to see him go when he does…I will have to share the story my dad used to share with me…a guy told him that the reason Texas Stadium was built with a hole in the roof like that was so God could look down on His favorite team…without missing a beat, my dad said, “Yeah, the visitors” ha ha ha ha ha ha :0)I actually get a little more pumped about college ball than the pros, though. ok, I need to peel back, this was like an ESPN pre-game show of a comment here…
Oh, and Fall is my favorite time of year…when it actually gets colder like its supposed too…for some reason I think of new beginings and old time New England communities like in writings from the era of Nathaniel Hawthorne and the like, even though my memories of it growing up are nothing like that…like Fall festivals and the harvest and Sadie Hawkins dances and hayrides and such…well, I have done a little bit of work on my friends’ farm during the harvest when I was younger, but that doesn’t really count…
Mom and I have TMJ problems. I didn’t know you had braces!! I guess that is what comes from a long distance friendship. Something about missing little visual things. Sounds like you need some prayer that you will be able to find out what is going on and how to help it.
I best be there early. Apparently I’m a “team captain”.
I loved this post, so much that I waited until tonight to comment, when I had a moment to think about it and what fall is to me. I think fall and home go hand in hand for me, and there is that smell, the one you alluded to, that I wish they could bottle and sell for those days that you are stuck in the sweltering heat and just want to be reminded that something better is coming. ha, I think that’s it, something better is coming, and though it is hard to say goodbye to beautiful sunny days, fall promises something else, as things die and are reborn, and winter falls, and then….spring. I LOVE that song by nicole nordeman…I think i am going to find the lyrics right now. : )
Every evening sky, an invitation To trace the patterned stars And early in July, a celebration For freedom that is ours And I notice You In children’s games In those who watch them from the shade Every drop of sun is full of fun and wonder You are summer
And even when the trees have just surrendered To the harvest time Forfeiting their leaves in late September And sending us inside Still I notice You when change begins And I am braced for colder winds I will offer thanks for what has been and was to come You are autumn
And everything in time and under heaven Finally falls asleep Wrapped in blankets white, all creation Shivers underneath And still I notice You When branches crack And in my breath on frosted glass Even now in death, You open doors for life to enter You are winter
And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced Teaching us to breathe What was frozen through is newly purposed Turning all things green So it is with You And how You make me new With every season’s change And so it will be As You are re-creating me Summer, autumn, winter, spring
sorry for the massively long post, but I thought you would appreciate this. Hey my new friend, have a wonderful weekend, I am headed out in about 8 hours for Destin FL, to see the ocean, and learn of Jesus, and just be still. Looking forward to it a lot, and hope you have a wonderful weekend! oh, and when I come through texas you can be sure I am coming your way! : ) though at this rate it might be 2008, or something like that…
yeah, I said have a wonderful weekend twice.
