Next time you need to break the ice at an
awkward dinner party you could start with this:
“What a superbly featured room and
what excellent boiled potatoes.
Many years since I’ve
had such an exemplary vegetable.”
(It helps, of course, if it is a nice room and there are potatoes on the menu.)
heh heh… this made me grin
You could say it anyhow but you might not be invited back ever again and they will spend the rest of their lives talking about that strange dinner guest who couldn’t tell there were no potatoes.
i will remember this. what’s it from?
Ha ha. If I said that at my relatives house their mouths would most likely open but no words would come out. Accompanied by blank stares, of course.
Mmmm, their good cousin was not as slimy in the Keira Knightley version of “Pride and Prejudice” as he probably ought to be…and the novel gives the impression that he is a largish fellow, not so much like a mouse as that film. Still, the music and landscapes in the flick are lovely, no? The piano stepping lightly down the stairs with sweeping breezes of strings behind it…But I do love me some potatoes. Even if they do not provide so much nutritional satisfaction as the more coloured vegetables…
I heard HIS voice saying that when I read it…and it made me cringe as always. That actor was too good at being creepy. I liked the extra credit stuff at the ball when the camera recorded him dancing, it was so funny the way he floundered and pranced like a little boy. =)
Thanks for dropping by. Just out of curiousity, why have you chosen not to display profile pics next to comments?
I heard his voice too! Sad, but true. I guess that proves he did a good job at his acting job! I must say, though, that I liked the Mr. Collins in the new film better than the old one; though I’m not sure this is a compliment because I don’t think you’re supposed to like Mr. Collins at all!
*giggle* makes me think of some others like…”i do! i love, simply love… celery root!””did you see how they ate their supper?! it was perfect! like a dance!” “we’ve been enjoying very fine weather.” “yes, the roads were very… dry.”and of course…”PO-TA-TOES! mash ’em, cook ’em, put ’em in a stew!”heh. oh dear… i’m afraid you’ve tapped into one of my weaknesses… *grin*
I’d better write that one down on my hand, or a card that I could alway’s have in my pocket.
It would be even funnier if the room (or hallway with a ceiling fan) was not superbly featured, and there were beans instead of potatoes.
That’s right, you were there during the making of that video. It’s so cool to watch it now after all that’s happened with the old Hollywood Hardware.
what’sis from?
It makes me smile too.
That line is, I must admit, very funny. Now, you have to put up the one from Thorougly Modern Millie.
Actually, the picture came from Google. That place is very close to where you napped. If you look at my new profile picture you will see me and the long pathway and trees. Verseilles gardens were magical.
