I’d forgotten how delightful the “Anne books” really are. Favorite quotes from reading today:
“Anne seems to me real stately and
like a queen. But I’d like Kerrenhappuch if it happened to be your
name. I think people make their names nice or ugly just by what they are
themselves. I can’t bear Josie or Gertie for names now but before I knew
the Pye girls I thought them real pretty.”
“That’s a lovely idea, Diana,”…”Living so
that you beautify your name, even if it wasn’t beautiful to begin with…making
it stand in people’s thoughts for something so lovely and pleasant that they
never think of it by itself.”
And…
Davy had no sorrows that plum jam could not cure.
Ah, to be six again.
Plum jam!
Awww. I kinda wish I wasn’t stuck in front of a computer so often. But I’ll hit it while I can.
And I prefer orange marmalade, myself. My grandfather made the best orange marmalade. I think it’s because it was homemade. And I think that everything DID taste better then, and that’s why.
And Alton just told me how to make a crab salad sandwich. I might have to look into that . . .
oh my
Davy’s awesome. He’s the best character in the Anne series besides Anne herself and Gilbert.
(plum jam is awesome, too.)
That’s awesome, I really enjoy your quotes. Also, I questioned the last line of the article as well.
I was in my 20’s when I first read the Anne books. They are great! It was one of those where I do not get anything done until the books are read. Plum jam is so good and it is easy to make too! Some friends gave us a bunch of plums last year and I made the jam all by myself. It must have been good because there isn’t any left. One of my favorite Anne quotes is not in the books but in the movie. It is when Marilla is talking to Anne about her made up idea of what romance is and what it really is-Gilbert giving up the school for her. My favorites are the last two or three books that are about her children, though, I do cry buckets of tears over the last book.
Yeah, it was fun talking with you that night. Hm, I’ll have to find some Anne quotes to put on my site, too.
